Hurricane Season Information

Hurricane Season Awareness :

The US Virgin Islands, as a Caribbean chain of islands, enjoys beautiful geography and a wonderful climate. It exists in a perpetual state of summer, due to its proximity to the equator and being surrounded by the Caribbean Sea. Over the course of the average year the temperature typically varies from 73°F to 88°F, and is rarely below 69°F or above 91°F (although it can feel much hotter when the humidity is high).

We are however subject to hurricanes and tropical storms. The Atlantic “Hurricane Alley” extends from the west coast of Africa to the Gulf of Mexico, including the Caribbean Sea and parts of the western Atlantic. The conditions in this region, particularly between June and November, are ideal for the
formation and growth of hurricanes. The USVI sits within the northern path of Hurricane Alley and June 1st
to November 30th is known as hurricane season.

Tropical storm and hurricane damage includes destructive winds, storm surge flooding, inland flooding from heavy rains, tornadoes, and high surf and rip currents. These hazards often result in lengthy power outages, damage to homes and businesses and damage to infrastructure such as roads. Thus, we constantly monitor tropical storm conditions and prepare our homes and businesses to recover quickly.

Many visitors still choose to come between June and November. If you so choose, we encourage you to understand the conditions and ensure you are prepared ! !
