Virtual Exam Testing

Equipment required for taking a Virtual Exam :

Exams can be taken on a variety of devices. If taken on a desktop or laptop , the device must have a camera and speakers, headphones ARE NOT ALLOWED during a testing session. Cellphones or tablets can also be used for exam. ( Zoom,teams,etc what ever we decide on) should be installed on the device as it will be used during the text to monitor you taking the exam

Prior to trying to schedule an exam :

Please visit the FCC website to get a FRN number. You MUST HAVE a valid FRN to take an exam. For instructions on getting a FRN please click here

Rules for testing environment :

• You are allowed one blank sheet of paper to use during the test
• A calculator is allowed but ExamTools has a calculator built into the testing environment. Any programmable calculators will have to be cleared on camera in front of Examiners to make sure that it isn’t programmed with formulas that could assist with answers.
• SmartWatches, headphones, smartglasses, ARE NOT ALLOWED during test. Cellphones can be in room where test is taken but must be out of view while taking exam.
• Any additional monitors, TVs or computers must be covered or out of sight while taking test.
• No one else should be in the room while taking test

What to expect when taking a virtual exam :

There will be a minimum of 3 examiners for your test. There will be a brief room scan with the camera done to make sure the testing environment is free of anything that could assist with exam answers. After the room scan, there will be a brief virtual inspection of the device, again this is to make sure that there isn’t anything running that can assist with exam answers
